Manchester United pursuing January transfer of the Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo
Manchester United are actively pursuing the signing of the Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo for the upcoming transfer window, according to talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils were interested in bringing the Holland international to the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2022. However, in the end, a deal did not end up materialising.
Instead, we splashed the cash on another Eredivisie forward. Antony, we bought the Brazil international in the recent transfer window for £85 million from Ajax.
However, United evidently need to bolster their attack once more. Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit has left Erik ten Hag with one forward short up front.
But PSV will not make it easy to get their star man. The Red and Whites have indicated that they want a record transfer fee of over £40 million to consider letting Gakpo leave in January.
The Holland international has been in red hot form for the Eredivisie outfit in the current campaign. He has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in 24 outings in all competitions for PSV this season.
Even at the 2022 World Cup, the 23-year-old showcased his talent. He was one of the pivotal players for Louis van Gaal’s team in Qatar, scoring in every group-stage fixture.
At United, Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the team at the moment. Marcus Rashford has also been deployed up front, but he leaves a lot to be desired with his finishing.

Thus, the Red Devils should seemingly bring someone in to get the ball in the back of the net for us. Gakpo is a player who has shown a keen eye for goals this season. Therefore, it would be wise for the club to pounce on his signature at the earliest.
