Bayern Munich eyeing Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yan Sommer amidst Manchester United interest
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are eyeing a move for Borussia Monchengladbach star Yann Sommer amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Sky Germany (h/t The Sun).
The Bavarians are keen on signing the Switzerland international in the upcoming transfer window. Julian Nageslmann’s team recently lost first-choice Manuel Neuer. The goalkeeper will miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg in a skiing accident.
As a result, Bayern have already held talks with Sommer’s representatives. The 34-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the campaign. However, the Bundesliga giants want to sign him in January.
But United also have the Swiss national in their sights. The Red Devils are looking at the shot-stopper as a replacement for current number one David de Gea.
Dean Henderson also recently departed the club. The England international joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan. However, it is unlikely that he will return to the Old Trafford side.
Bayern currently have Sven Ulreich as their second-choice keeper. The Bavarians also have Alexander Nubel on their books, who is currently on loan at AS Monaco.
United signed Martin Dubravka in the recent transfer window on a temporary deal. However, the Slovakia international has hardly featured for the Red Devils this season. We also have Tom Heaton in our ranks.
But De Gea has been given regular game time in between the sticks by Erik ten Hag. The 32-year-old has been in fine form for the Manchester-based club since the previous campaign.

But it will be interesting to see how things change goalkeeper-wise under the Dutch manager at the start of next season. It also remains to be seen whether the club will be able to capture Sommer’s signature next month or in the summer of 2023.
