Erik ten Hag will not stand in the way if Harry Maguire wants to leave Manchester United in the future

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will not stand in the way of Harry Maguire if the defender expresses his desire to leave the club in the future. The 29-year-old has not been the first choice under the Dutch manager.

The England international has lost his place in the starting lineup since Ten Hag’s arrival in the Old Trafford dugout. Our captain has struggled to get into the team after the first two games of the season.

Speaking to Daily Mail writer Chris Wheeler via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the former Ajax head coach was asked about the prospect of letting Maguire go. However, the Dutch manager is satisfied with the defender unless he expresses a desire to depart.

“Only when he doesn’t want to be in these circumstances anymore. Until that moment, I am happy with Maguire.”

The 29-year-old made his way to United in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. Initially, the centre-back was decent in a red shirt. He was also handed the captain’s armband in 202 after Ashley Young’s departure.

However, since last season, Maguire has struggled at the Old Trafford side. The Red Devils were shaky at the back in the previous campaign and the England international was culpable for making some big errors.

At the start of Ten Hag’s reign at the Theatre of Dreams, the 29-year-old failed to instil confidence in the fans with his performances. Subsequently, he was dropped to the bench.

However, while Maguire has gone down the pecking order at United, Gareth Southgate put faith in him for the 2022 World Cup. And the centre-back did not disappoint.

He was one of the Three Lions’ best players in Qatar. The 29-year-old was solid for England throughout the tournament. But they lost 2-1 to France in the quarter-finals.
