SL Benfica want £70 million for Goncalo Ramos who Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been monitoring
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been monitoring SL Benfica star Goncalo Ramos for over a year. The Primeira Liga outfit valued the Portugal international at around £25 million before the 2022 World Cup.
However, considering his performances throughout the season and in Qatar, the Eagles have upped their demand. They would now like to receive upwards of £70 million for the 21-year-old, according to Daily Express writer Gideon Brooks via mufcmpb on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Ramos has come up through the youth ranks at Benfica. The Portuguese made it into the Eagles’ first team last season. However, the youngster has had a breakout campaign this term.
In 21 appearances in all competitions for the Primeira Liga outfit, the 21-year-old has scored 14 goals and provided six assists.
The striker also shined at the 2022 World Cup with Portugal. After coming on for a few cameos in the group stage as a substitute, the youngster started in the round of 16 against Switzerland, replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the XI.
Ramos scored a brilliant hattrick as Fernando Santos’ team beat the Rossocrociati 6-1. The 21-year-old got the nod ahead of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner once again for the quarter-final clash against Morocco. However, the Atlas Lions got the better of them.
United evidently need to add reinforcements up top, with Cristiano Ronaldo departing the club in an untimely manner. While the 37-year-old was not having the best of seasons, he was still an option Erik ten Hag could count on.
In recent fixtures, the former Real Madrid star was getting more game time due to Anthony Martial’s injuries. The France international has had a tough time staying fit in the current campaign.
