PSG president admits interest in Manchester United and England star Marcus Rashford

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has admitted that the French champions are interested in England and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old had a period where he was struggling. As a result, the forward was being linked with a move away and the Ligue 1 champions were one of the names eyeing his signature.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (h/t Manchester Evening News), Al-Khelaifi revealed PSG had tried to sign Rashford before. The French club’s president also stated that they would be more than happy to sign the England international as a free agent.

“He’s another player that is really amazing. And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely. We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?”

The 25-year-old’s current deal with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season. However, the Old Trafford side have the option to extend the forward’s deal by a further year.

Rashford has turned things around in the current campaign. Last season, the 25-year-old was criticised for his lacklustre performances. But this term, the forward has become our talisman.

Erik ten Hag has opted to deploy the England international up front for most of the campaign. And he has not disappointed, scoring eight goals in all competitions this season, the most in the squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo has departed the club mid-way through the season. As a result, the Dutch manager is left with Anthony Martial as the only natural striker. Unfortunately, the French national’s campaign has been hampered by injuries.

PSG’s front three consists of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Christophe Galtier has other options at his disposal as well, like Pablo Sarabia and Hugo Ekitike.

As for United, unlike the Ligue 1 outfit, we seemingly do not have an abundance of talent up front. Thus, it is essential that the Red Devils keep a hold of Rashford.
