Anthony Martial has ‘future’ at Manchester United as he impresses manager Erik ten Hag

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has impressed manager Erik ten Hag and the club feel the France international has a ‘future’ at the club, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].

The 27-year-old was out on loan to Sevilla for half of last season after failing to cement a place in the team. Subsequently, the Red Devils were thinking about selling the former AS Monaco star.

However, upon his return this summer, Martial made an impression on the Dutch manager and went ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the pecking order. The gaffer was impressed by the forward’s link-up play and selflessness.

Ten Hag also observed the French national’s popularity in the dressing room. The Dutch manager now sees him as someone who can spearhead the Old Trafford side’s attack.

The 27-year-old has had somewhat of a revival at United. He performed well during the pre-season. Unfortunately, an injury delayed the striker’s start to the campaign.

Martial has subsequently been on the sidelines a number of times throughout the season. However, when the French national has featured, he has played well.

The 27-year-old has only been able to make seven appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions in the current campaign. However, he has found the back of the net four times and provided two assists. The forward also netted a goal in the recent friendly against Cadiz in Spain.

In Martial’s absence, Marcus Rashford has led the line for the Old Trafford side on most occasions. However, while the England international has done well, he leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Thus, the former Monaco star is evidently essential to the team now. And with Ronaldo’s untimely departure, it is pivotal that the 27-year-old remains fit for the rest of the campaign.
