Barcelona director reveals Manchester United summer target and the Netherlands star Frenkie de Jong “not for sale”

Jordi Cruyff, the director of Barcelona, has revealed that Manchester United’s summer target and the Netherlands star Frenkie De Jong is “not for sale”.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move to the Red Devils in the recent transfer window. However, in the end, the Holland international ended up staying at the Camp Nou side.

Speaking to the media via Express, Cruyff outlined that the Blaugrana were delighted with De Jong. The La Liga giants’ director issued a hands-off warning to anyone looking to sign the 25-year-old.

“Frenkie de Jong is not for sale. He’s a key player for us, so that time has passed. He’s here and he’s important for us. At the end of last summer after Fair Play discussions he stayed here and Frenkie is really loved at Barca.”

United are still eyeing the Holland international. However, it seems the Spanish giants have no intention of listening to any offers for the midfielder.

De Jong struggled to find a place in Xavi’s plans at the start of the 2022/23 season. He faced competition from the likes of Pedri, Gavi and Sergio Busquets to get into the starting lineup at the Camp Nou side.

However, the Holland international has once again established himself at Barcelona. The 25-year-old has started in the last six La Liga fixtures for the Blaugrana this term.

De Jong is also thriving at the 2022 World Cup with the Netherlands. Louis van Gaal has had the 25-year-old in the starting lineup for every fixture in Qatar. The Oranje will face Argentina in the quarter-finals after beating the USA in the round of 16.

United bolstered the middle of the park in the recent transfer window with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. The Brazilian signed from Real Madrid and the Danish national was bought on a free transfer.

While Erik ten Hag has managed to turn things around at the Old Trafford side, we are evidently still a long way from competing for the Premier League title. A player of De Jong’s quality has the ability to improve any top squad around Europe.
