Atletico Madrid open to offers for Portugal star Joao FeWlix amidst Manchester United pursuit
La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are willing to listen to offers for Portugal star Joao Felix, with Manchester United pursuing his signature. The 23-year-old could leave Los Rojiblancos soon.
The forward joined the Spanish club in the summer of 2019 from SL Benfica. However, the youngster has been unable to live up to expectations at the Madrid-based club.
Speaking to TVE via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Atletico CEO Gil Marin has admitted that Los Blancos will look to sell Felix due to his relationship with Diego Simeone.
”João Felix has top level but because of his relationship with Simeone and game time… we feel that makes sense to consider potential bids to sell him. I’d love for João to continue, but this is the current situation.”
The Portugal international shone for a season in the Primeira Liga before Los Rojiblancos snapped him up. Many expected the 23-year-old to go on to do greater things. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
In the current campaign, Felix has seen himself out of the Argentine manager’s plans at the Madrid-based club. The forward has started just five games under Simeone this season in La Liga.
But the 23-year-old has been impressive in Qatar with his national side. The forward has been an essential member of Fernando Santos’ team. He gave two assists in Portugal’s 6-1 rout of Switzerland in the World Cup’s round of 16.
United recently lost Cristiano Ronaldo as the 37-year-old left the club midway through the season. This has left Erik ten Hag with one less option up front.
With Anthony Martial’s injury issues, the Dutch manager has been forced to use Marcus Rashford in the number nine position. The England international has been decent up front for the Red Devils.

But we seemingly lack depth in the attack. Thus, it would be wise for the Old Trafford side to get another forward. And it is not always that a player of Felix’s talent and potential is available in the market.
