Barcelona and the Netherlands star Memphis Depay attracting the most interest from Manchester United
Manchester United are the side most interested in signing the Netherlands star Memphis Depay from Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window, according to Spanish publication AS (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Blaugrana could sell him for a cut-price of £4.3 million in January in order to cash in on the Holland international before his contract expires at the end of the season.
Erik ten Hag’s team are in the market for a new centre-forward. However, with options limited in the winter transfer window, the 28-year-old could be the short-term solution the Red Devils need.
Depay previously had a spell with the Old Trafford side. He signed for United in the summer of 2015 from PSV Eindhoven. However, after failing to impress in Manchester, the forward left for Olympique Lyon after a season and a half.
In France, the 28-year-old thrived and once again built up his reputation. As a result, last year, Barcelona opted to sign the Holland international on a free transfer.
However, Depay’s time at the Blaugrana seems to be coming to an end. The 28-year-old is no longer the first choice in the team since the departure of Ronald Koeman from the Camp Nou dugout.
Barcelona went on to bolster their attack in the recent transfer window with the addition of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. Xavi can also count on Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati up front.
United recently lost Cristiano Ronaldo midway through the season after his abrupt departure. The Portugal international’s exit has dwindled the gaffer’s options up front.
