PSV Eindhoven want £43 million for the Netherlands star Cody Gakpo amidst Manchester United interest
PSV Eindhoven will demand £43 million for the Netherlands star Cody Gakpo amidst interest from Manchester United. The 23-year-old has been in fine form in the current campaign for both club and country.
The Holland international has consistently gotten himself on the scoresheet for the Red and Whites this season. In 24 appearances for the Eredivisie outfit in all competitions, the forward has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Red Devils are in talks with Gakpo’s representatives. However, the Old Trafford side are yet to make contact with PSV. However, speaking to The United Stand on YouTube via Twitter (h/t The Sun), the Italian revealed the forward would cost a lot.
“Now I think they [PSV] want €50 million [£43m] guaranteed for Cody Gakpo.”
The 23-year-old has shined at the World Cup so far as well. He has scored in each of the Oranje’s three Group A fixtures against Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar.
United’s depth in the forward line has been weakened with the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international was our top goalscorer last season. Although, the 37-year-old has struggled to find the back of the net consistently under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch manager is now left with Anthony Martial as the only natural striker in the squad. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old has struggled to stay fit in the current campaign. But he has performed well when available.
In the absence of the former AS Monaco star Marcus Rashfrod has been preferred by Ten Hag in the number nine position. The 25-year-old has done well to lead the line.
Other players at the former Ajax head coach’s disposal in the attack include Antony, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elnaga and Alejandro Garnacho.
