Oliver Kahn, the CEO of Bayern Munich, has reiterated that the Bundesliga giants are not interested in signing Portugal and former Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 37-year-old left the Red Devils by mutual consent recently. His controversial interview with Piers Morgan, where the forward criticised the club and Erik ten Hag, led to his departure.
Now, Ronaldo is available as a free agent. The Bavarians were one of the several clubs that were linked with the Portuguese icon in the summer. However, the German outfit distanced themselves from his signature back then.
Speaking to Sky Sports in Germany (h/t Manchester Evening News), Kahn has ruled out Bayern once again as a possible destination for the 37-year-old. The former legendary goalkeeper explained that the forward does not fit their plans.
This is after the club lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona in the summer and only signed left-winger Sadio Mane as a viable replacement for him this summer. They currently have Thomas Muller, Mane, Mathys Tel, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Serge Gnabry who can play in that position.
“We have already dealt with this. We have a clear idea, and a clear philosophy, in how our squad should be put together. We all appreciate him, but there’s no discussion. We all love Cristiano Ronaldo, but that’s something that doesn’t fit into our idea.”
Ronaldo made his way to United in the summer of 2021 after fruitful spells at Real Madrid and Juventus. The Portuguese returned to a club having won all major trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson in his previous spell.
The 37-year-old lived up to the billing in his first season back, ending the campaign as our top goalscorer. However, overall, the Red Devils were underwhelming and failed to compete for titles and finished sixth in the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick were relieved of their duties in the space of a few months and Ten Hag was appointed the new manager at the end of last season.
However, the former Ajax head coach’s arrival led to Ronaldo’s prominence in the team falling. The Portuguese found himself on the bench for most of the campaign under the Dutch manager.
The 37-year-old is currently with the Portugal national team at the World Cup. The forward is leading his side to get their hands on the golden trophy for the first time. Where the superstar ends up after the tournament in Qatar remains to be seen.
