SL Benfica not willing to part ways with Argentina star Enzo Fernandez for less than £103m amidst Manchester United interest

Manchester United will need to pay £103 million to SL Benfica to prise away Argentina star Enzo Fernandez, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Express).

The 21-year-old signed for the Eagled in the summer of 2022. His contract includes a significant release clause, which the Primeira Liga outfit will hold out for.

Several top clubs around Europe are eyeing the youngster’s signature. Premier League rivals Liverpool are also interested in him. However, the Merseysiders could instead focus on getting Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham.

Fernandez signed for Benfica from Argentine outfit River Plate. The 21-year-old has been a key player under Roger Schmidt at the Lisbon-based club. And the Eagles have gone unbeaten in all competitions so far this season.

Currently, the youngster is with Lionel Scaloni’s squad in Qatar. The midfielder has come on as a substitute in both of La Albiceleste’s group-stage fixtures. In the second match against Mexico, he scored a brilliant goal to secure a 2-0 victory for Argentina.

United have had a set midfield of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes under Erik ten Hag. The Brazilian and Danish nationals have impressed many fans in their short time at the club.

However, our bench evidently lacks quality. The likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have failed to convince fans over the years, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to seek potential upgrades on them.

The Netherlands international has been especially underwhelming in his time at the Old Trafford side. Even with the Dutch manager’s arrival, who the 25-year-old played under at Ajax, he has been unable to make a mark.

Thus, some supporters want an overhaul in the engine room in the upcoming transfer windows. Fernandez is still young but is proving his talent at the highest level. But with the ridiculous amount Benfica are asking for, the Red Devils would be wise to focus on other targets.
