Patrice Evra feels Argentina star Lisandro Martinez one of the best recent Manchester United signings
Manchester United icon Patrice Evra has called Argentina star Lisandro Martinez one of the club’s best signings in recent years. The 24-year-old’s passion is admired by the former left-back.
The defender was signed by the Red Devils in the recent transfer window from Ajax. Since then, the centre-back has turned into a fan favourite at the Old Trafford side.
Speaking on the Vibe with Five YouTube channel (h/t Metro), Evra, who spent eight years at United, hailed Martinez for his all-out defending on the pitch.
“This is one of the best signings we’ve had for years at Manchester United. It’s because of his fighting spirit. That’s what United fans want to see – those players have to bleed for the shirt.”
The 24-year-old’s start in Manchester was not the best. Against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the Red Devils lost and the Argentine defender was criticised for his performances.
However, since then, Martinez has shown his qualities with impassioned performances. The 24-year-old has been paired with Raphael Varane. Alongside the French national, the Argentine defender has thrived.
The former Ajax star is currently in Qatar with La Albiceleste. Against Saudi Arabia, the 24-year-old started on the bench as Argentina lost 2-1 in their opening Group C fixture.
However, the defender was put in from the start in Lionel Scaloni’s team for the Mexico game. The United centre-back was resolute at the back for the South American team as they ground out a 2-0 victory.
Over the years, the Red Devils have signed the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly. However, none of them has been embraced by fans like Martinez. The centre-back’s dedication is evident every time he steps on the pitch.
