Flamengo are interested in bringing Portugal captain and former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo to Rio de Janeiro, according to Brazilian news magazine Veja (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has parted ways with the Red Devils. His contract was terminated by mutual consent from both parties in light of the controversial statements the forward made about the club in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Now, the Brasileirao outfit are looking for a solution to make a move for Ronaldo. The Mengao are yet to hold talks with the 37-year-old. However, they are in conversation with their sponsors to arrange a financial package for the Portuguese icon.

The former Real Madrid superstar returned to United in the summer of 2021 from Juventus. In his first spell with the Red Devils, the forward had tasted all sorts of success.

However, while Ronaldo was the club’s top goalscorer last season, with 24 goals in all competitions, the Old Trafford side faltered. We were unable to challenge for titles and missed out on the top four in the Premier League.

As a result, for the first time in his career, the five-time Champions League winner had to feature in the Europa League in the current campaign. On top of that, Erik ten Hag did not seem to fancy the Portuguese icon either.

The Dutch manager’s arrival saw the Portuguese icon’s influence in the team deteriorate. He started just four games for United in the league this season.

Ronaldo’s form in front of goal has not been considerable either. He seemed to be missing his shooting boots for the Old Trafford side in the current campaign, finding the back of the net three times in all competitions in 16 appearances.
