Piers Morgan takes cheeky Cristiano Ronaldo dig as the Glazer family put Manchester United up for sale

Manchester United have been put up for sale by the Glazer family and Piers Morgan suggests it is all down to Cristiano Ronaldo. The broadcaster made a cheeky comment about the Portugal international forcing the owners’ hands on Twitter.

The tongue-in-cheek statement follows after the Glazers are decided to explore”strategic alternatives” for the club. They could part ways with the club 17 years after attaining majority ownership of the Red Devils.

The Old Trafford side released a statement on their club’s official website stating that the hierarchy are looking at proposals. All possibilities have been left open, including a sale.

“Manchester United plc, one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company’s Board of Directors is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club.

“As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.”

United also recently announced that Ronaldo had left the club by mutual consent. The development came after the 37-year-old made some controversial statements in an interview with Morgan about the club, the owners and Erik ten Hag.

About the Glazers, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner claimed that the owners “do not care” about the Red Devils. He also called the Old Trafford side a “marketing club”.

Subsequently, after the entire conversation was released on TalkTV, United have decided that the player could no longer remain with the side. While many fans disagree with Ronaldo’s contempt for the manager, some understand his concerns with the Glazers.

The Red Devils have been on a downward spiral in the last decade. Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from the Old Trafford side’s dugout, the Red Devils have not challenged for the Premier League.

United have also not had the best of planning in terms of recruitment. Several big-money signings over the years have been underwhelming.
