Manchester United continue to monitor Argentina and SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez
Manchester United are continuing to monitor Argentina and SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to Portuguese outlet Record via Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are still eyeing the 21-year-old, who has a release clause of £100 million in his contract. However, a January departure for the youngster is ruled out.
But interested parties could tempt the Eagles to part ways with their newly recruited star with a big offer. The Primeira Liga outfit may listen to deals that would lead to a considerable profit margin.
Benfica signed Fernandez in the summer of 2022 from Argentine outfit River Plate for £10 million. And the midfielder has been a key member of Roger Schmidt’s starting lineup in the current campaign.
The 21-year-old has made 24 appearances for the Portuguese club in all competitions this term, scoring three goals and providing five assists. He has played in multiple positions in the middle of the park as well.
The Eagles have enjoyed a successful season up until now. They are unbeaten in all competitions. The Primeira Liga outfit finished top in their Champions League group which included the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
United signed the likes of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the recent transfer window. And the duo have been in exceptional form for the club ever since. However, some fans feel our bench strength could improve.
Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been at the club for some time now. However, none of them have been able to showcase their qualities on a consistent basis for the Red Devils.
