Cristiano Ronaldo feels Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have been given more time at Manchester United
Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo feels Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have been given more time at Manchester United. The Portuguese icon disagrees with the decision to sack the Norwegian head coach.
Ole was appointed the Red Devils’ caretaker manager in December 2018 after the departure of Jose Mourinho. Due to the Old Trafford side’s encouraging results under the former Molde head coach was permanently given the reins of the Manchester-based club.
While we seemingly started building something under the Norwegian manager during his time at the club, United suffered last season. The Red Devils signed the likes of Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho in the summer of 2021.
The Old Trafford side had finished second in the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign. And some fans felt the signings of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner alongside the former Real Madrid defender and Borussia Dortmund forward would propel us to challenge for titles.
Unfortunately, that was not the case. And after a loss to Watford in the league in November last year, Ole was replaced with Ralf Rangnick. However, things did not change much under the interim boss.
Speaking to Piers Morgan in an interview with TalkTV (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ronaldo expressed his affection for the Norwegian manager. The 37-year-old was delighted to have worked under the former United icon.
“I love Solskjaer. I think he was a top person, because what I keep inside my heart, it’s the heart of the persons. And Ole for me, is a top person… It’s hard. It’s hard to assume [the role] after Sir Alex Ferguson, but I think he did a good job for sure.
“You need much more time. But I never doubt that you’re going to be a good coach in the future. But it was a good experience. I was, I was so pleased to work with him even for a short period.”
While Ole did manage to steady the ship for a few years, in the end, the results were not in our favour in the 2021/22 season. And the Red Devils had to part ways with the Norwegian.
With Erik ten Hag at the helm now, some fans can see evident changes in how we play and try to approach games. The recruitment under the former Ajax head coach has been decent as well.

The likes of Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony have made an immediate impact in Manchester. Thus, while we should be thankful to Ole, it was time to move on from him in 2021.
