Manchester United hope to terminate contract of Portugal icon Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent
Manchester United are hoping to terminate the contract of Portugal icon Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent, according to i newspaper (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils understand that the 37-year-old’s time at the club is coming to an end. And the Old Trafford side know that the Erik ten Hag era is underway in Manchester.
Ronaldo recently gave an interview to Piers Morgan. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner heavily criticised the club and did not have good things to say about the manager either.
The Portuguese icon has found himself on the peripheries of the Dutch gaffer’s ideas in the current campaign. He missed most of the pre-season and has since struggled to get into the former Ajax head coach’s plans.
Ten Hag has opted to pick other players in his starting lineup over the 37-year-old. He has not played the full 90 minutes often this term.
In front of goal, Ronaldo has struggled as well. When he has been given the opportunities, the Portugues star has failed to take them. The 37-year-old has snatched his shots and cut a frustrating figure for most of the campaign.
On the other hand, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have contributed to a considerable number of goals and assists for United this season. The England international has become our talisman under the Dutch manager.
Unfortunately, the French forward has found himself on the sidelines more often than not in the current campaign. Injuries have hampered the 26-year-old’s game time under the new gaffer.
Ronaldo walked down the tunnel before full time against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and was suspended for the game against Chelsea. However, Ten Hag gave him the armband a few weeks later against Aston Villa.
