Atletico Madrid want to keep Joao Felix amidst Manchester United and PSG interest
According to Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News), Spanish giants Atletico Madrid want to keep Portuguese superstar Joao Felix amidst interest from both Manchester United and PSG.
Felix has had a troubled time at Atletico Madrid. He has lost the confidence of Diego Simeone and has been benched by the manager. Although the Portuguese forward has had an impact from off the bench, he has not really still won his manager’s trust back.
Considering the fact that the pair were not seeing eye-to-eye, it was expected that Felix could leave the club in the upcoming transfer windows and a number of clubs including Manchester United and PSG were said to be keeping an eye.
In fact, according to Cadena SER (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Red Devils were preparing a bid to try and sign the player from the Spain capital after seeing a reported €125million offer for the youngster rejected in the summer.
The 23-year-old forward has played 18 times for the Spanish club across all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists until now. Felix is a player with the potential to perform much better and it is high time we start seeing that.
Felix has a contract with the Madrid club until 2026 (Transfermarkt) and he would likely cost any club which wants to sign him a lot of money. However, the Portuguese prodigy has the potential to become a world-class player.
Felix has been picked in the Portuguese squad for the World Cup and will be hoping to impress in Qatar. It would not only help him win his manager’s trust but also increase his valuation for the clubs that want to sign him.
The 23-year-old is at the stage of his career where he is no longer a young player. He is at the age where he needs to start showing his potential on a regular basis and he has what it takes to do it at the biggest stage.
