French defender Benjamin Pavard open to leaving Bayern Munich amidst Manchester United interest

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has revealed that he is open to leaving the Bundesliga giants amidst interest from Manchester United. The France international is open to starting a new experience elsewhere.

The Red Devils have been consistently linked with the 26-year-old over the years. However, he has remained in Bavaria. But with the right-back’s place in the starting XI not guaranteed under Julian Nagelsmann, speculations have once again surrounded his future.

Pavard’s current contract with Bayern expires in the summer of 2024. And the two parties have been unable to come to terms over a new deal.

Speaking to L’Equipe (h/t Mirror), the 26-year-old suggested he may play for another team in the coming years. However, the French national wants the potential new club to be attractive in terms of their direction.

“I have immense respect for Bayern, I learned there the requirement of a very high level and it is an honour to wear this shirt.

“Afterwards, I have been in Germany for seven years, I have won everything with the club. I’m not against discovering a new project. Maybe now is the time. Why not discover a new country, a new culture? But the sports project must be interesting.”

Pavard joined the Bundesliga giants in the summer of 2019 from VfB Stuttgart. And he has been a key figure in the Bavarians’ starting lineup over the years.

However, with the arrival of Noussair Mazraoui to the German outfit, the France international has had to fight for his place under Nagelsmann. The defender has played as a right-back as well as a centre-back this term.

United currently have Diogo Dalot as the first choice on the right of the back four. The Portugal international has started in every game for the Red Devils under Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager does not seem to trust Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The former Crystal Palace star has hardly seen any game time in the current campaign.

Pavard won the World Cup with France in 2018. The 26-year-old is a quality player. And his versatility makes him an appealing target for the Red Devils. Dalot needs competition in the squad and the team could evidently do with more strength in the centre-back area.
