Erik ten Hag feels Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho still has a long way to go after Aston Villa win

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was happy with the performance of Alejandro Garnacho. However, the gaffer feels the 18-year-old still has a lot of room for improvement.

The Red Devils took on Unai Emery’s team for the second consecutive game on Thursday (10 November). On the weekend in the Premier League, the Birmingham-based club beat us 3-1 Villa Park. However, this time around, the Red Devils got the better of the Lions at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag made three changes at around the hour mark as we were a goal down. With the arrival of the 18-year-old alongside Christina Eriksen and Anthony Elnaga, United started to dominate the proceedings.

Garnacho gave the Villa defence trouble playing on the right wing. The youngster has been handed opportunities by the gaffer in recent fixtures and has made the most of them.

Speaking after the win via Metro, Ten Hag heaped praise on the Argentine. But he also acknowledged that the 18-year-old needs to get better in certain aspects.

“I think it was good that also when he came on that he showed performance that he has an impact in the game. Quite clear, with two assists, some good dribbles, runs behind, but also some things he has to improve.

“So he still has things to learn but it’s quite obvious we are really happy with his development, with his performance tonight and he can contribute to this team.”

Garnacho has had a fruitful few weeks with the Red Devils. The forward made his full debut for the Old Trafford side against FC Sheriff in the Europa League a couple of weeks back.

The Argentine also scored his first senior goal for United against Real Sociedad on 3 November. While still not a finished article, the 18-year-old has shown glimpses of his potential quality.
