Manchester United ‘crazy’ about signing SL Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez
SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez is of interest to Manchester United, with the Red Devils ‘crazy’ about the Argentina international, according to Record.pt (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The same report goes on to mention that the Old Trafford side could pursue his signature in the summer of 2023. A move in January does not seem to be on the cards. However, the Primeira Liga outfit could be open to big offers for the 21-year-old in the winter transfer window.
Unfortunately, the Manchester-based club are not the only side monitoring Fernandez. Barcelona, Manchester City and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on him.
The midfielder joined Benfica in the recent transfer window from a club in his home country, River Plate. And the Argentine has hit the ground running in Portugal.
Roger Schmidt’s team are unbeaten in all competitions in the current campaign. The 21-year-old has been an essential figure in the engine room for the Eagles.
Benfica managed to top Group H of the Champions League, which included the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. They beat the Serie A giants both home and away.
Fernandez has featured in 22 games for the Eagles in all competitions this term. He has scored three goals and provided four assists. And the youngster has played in multiple positions in the middle of the park for Schmidt.
While United possess quality in the middle of the park, some fans feel our bench could be better. Donny van de Beek has struggled to break into the starting lineup since he arrived in 2020. On the other hand, Fred and Scott McTominay have not been consistent for the Red Devils.

Thus, adding youth and potential to the engine room is a wise option. Fernandez is still young and has his whole career ahead of him. But it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side are able to acquire his signature in the coming future.
