Manchester United midfielder Fred admits surprise at Cristiano Ronaldo antics against Tottenham

Speaking in an interview with TNT Sports as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United midfielder Fred admits that he was shocked when he saw Cristiano Ronaldo walking into the tunnel in the game against Tottenham Hotspur.

An incident that created a lot of controversy, Ronaldo was eventually dropped from the squad for the next game against Chelsea. However, Erik ten Hag did reintegrate him into the team for the game against Sheriff and he has been a part of the starting XI since.

It has been a dismal season for Ronaldo in a Man United shirt with the Portuguese striker failing to score as he used to before. Ten Hag has often chosen to field Marcus Rashford as the main man forward and leave the former Juventus star on the bench.

There have been calls for the 37-year-old striker to leave Manchester United in the winter transfer window. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Portuguese forward but it does look like things are clicking in recent weeks.

It must be remembered that Ronaldo came into this campaign without a pre-season behind him and even the best of players struggle to get up to speed, as we saw with Tottenham star Harry Kane last season.

The tunnel incident would have been something that happened in the heat of the moment for the Man United striker. Ronaldo himself apologized for that incident and since then all has been forgotten and people have moved on.

Fred has now admitted that he was surprised by what Ronaldo did in the game but could understand his teammates’ frustration with the lack of playing time.

“Turned out I saw it later on the news. I was even surprised when I saw it, but it happens”

With just a couple of games to go before the mid-season international break, Ronaldo will be hoping to put in a couple of great performances and score goals as that will help him to go into the World Cup in a good space.
