Manchester United are closing in on an agreement for PSV star Cody Gakpo
According to the Express, Manchester United are very close to reaching an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of highly-rated Dutch winger Cody Gakpo in January.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the talented winger but could not reach an agreement for a transfer back in the summer. They eventually settled for a move for Antony from Ajax but it looks like they still want Gakpo.
Gakpo has been making all the headlines with his absolutely ridiculous performances this season. The talented Dutchman has been one of the best players in the world and he seems to be getting better with every single performance.
In 22 games for the Dutch giants this season across all competitions, Gakpo has a cumulative total of 29 goal contributions with the 23-year-old scoring 13 times and assisting 16 times in what has been a truly sensational start to the season.
Gakpo has also won nine caps for his national team scoring three goals and he will be hoping to be on the flight to Qatar to play in the World Cup. It is highly likely that the Orange indeed take him and he can be the difference maker in the tournament.
Gakpo has a contract with PSV until 2026 (Transfermarkt) but it looks almost certain that this will be his last season in the Dutch league. It is even possible that the talented winger makes a move as soon as January.
It is now being claimed that Manchester United are on the verge of closing a deal for the talented winger and he will be a great addition to Erik ten Hag’s team. Gakpo has shown a prolific nature in front of the goal which is something the Red Devils are lacking.
Man United were forced to play even Harry Maguire as a striker in the final moments to try and score a goal against Real Sociedad and signing a player like Gakpo could go a long way in easing Man United’s issues with the clinical nature in front of goal.
