Jorge Mendes engineering move for Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot to Barcelona
The agent of Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot, Jorge Mendes, is trying to engineer a move for his client to Barcelona next year, according to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror).
The Portugal international is in the final year of his current contract at the Old Trafford side. Thus, the 23-year-old’s future in Manchester is uncertain at the moment.
And Mendes has ‘personally endorsed’ the right-back moving to Catalunya in 2022, making use of his ‘exquisite relationship’ with the Spanish giants. The super agent has already offered his client to the Blaugrana.
Dalot has become one of the key figures in United’s team this season. Erik ten Hag has preferred the Portuguese star over Aaron Wan-Bissaka. In recent months, the former Crystal Palace star has lost his place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.
The England U21 international enjoyed regular minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. During the Norwegian manager’s reign, the 24-year-old was the first choice, with Dalot playing a bit-part role and subsequently leaving on loan.
However, things turned around for the 23-year-old with the arrival of Ralf Rangnick. The interim boss gave the Portuguese national a run-in in the team. And while the right-back was nothing special in the previous campaign, he was evidently better than Wan-Bissaka.
Fortunately, Dalot has seemingly taken his game to the next level in the 2022/23 season. The 23-year-old has started every game for the Old Trafford side and has been pivotal to our impressive performances.
In the previous game against West Ham United, the Portuguese star was solid defensively. And that is a facet of his game some fans feel the right-back has improved the most.
