Manchester United have intensified their search for a right back and according to Express, have sent scouts multiple times to see Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

The Red Devils’ rebuild under Erik ten Hag is well and truly underway with the team putting some impressive performances under the Dutchman’s start to life at Old Trafford.

While the team is performing well, we are still miles off the level of champions Manchester City and Ten Hag is aware of that, hence he is not satisfied with just the current personnel at hand and is looking to strengthen the team in key areas.

One particular position that needs to be tended to has the right-back position for the team. Although Diogo Dalot has impressed with his displays, there is a feeling that there is no strong competition for the Portuguese with Aaron wan Bissaka seemingly out of Ten Hag’s plan.

Frimpong, another Dutch international, is making waves in the Bundesliga with his impressive displays of speed, aggression and attacking output, all quintessential prerequisites wanted by Ten Hag with his fullbacks.

This season the right-back has contributed to five goals and notched two assists in 17 appearances in the Bundesliga this season which has caught the attention of United scouts, who are of the opinion that he could be a viable option for a solid competition for the right-back slot.

We have already witnessed that an able competition can bring up the levels of many players’ games, most recently seen with Tyrell Malacia’s dominant displays having a positive impact on Luke Shaw who has seen his resurgence of form.

Ten Hag has constantly stressed the importance of a squad and not just eleven players to be a successful squad which is pretty impressive considering the squad depth possessed by our rivals.

One more notable position that he is keen to strengthen is the No.1 spot with the manager keen to add able competition for David de Gea who has not truly convinced the manager.

Porto’s goalkeeper Diogo Costa has been touted as a primary target with his impressive displays with the Portuguese’s side the club sending scouts to watch the goalkeeper that could potentially lead to a stronger interest for the player in the future with De Gea’s contract expiring at the end of the season, although the club has the option to extend it by another year.

It will be an interesting January transfer window for us with Ten Hag keen to cover the deficiencies in the squad and it remains to be seen whether United’s interest in the players would grow more concrete over the coming months.
