Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is delighted with the side’s win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday (30 October) in the Premier League. The Spaniard made a couple of brilliant saves in the game to secure the three points for the Red Devils.

Neither of the teams created many chances in the first half. Our defence looked a bit scrappy, but we managed to nullify any threat from David Moyes’ men. Thankfully, Marcus Rashford got on the scoresheet for the Manchester-based club in the 38th minute.

The second half presented West Ham with opportunities to snatch a point. However, De Gea denied the Hammers any satisfaction. Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the 1-0 victory, the 31-year-old shot-stopper praised the Red Devils’ performance.

“It’s a great win for us. If we want to achieve and be in the top places we have to win games like this today.

“Of the two saves, probably the header from Zouma was the best because it was almost certainly going in but I am happy for all of them. Happy to make the saves and it’s a massive win.

“We are pressing well and recovering the ball well high up the pitch. We conceded some chances at the end but West Ham are a great team. I’m really happy to be honest.”

In the final quarter of the match, our goalkeeper had to work hard. West Ham had several chances to equalise. However, our number one was in between the sticks to parry everything out of the goal.

In the 84th minute. Kurt Zouma, the former Chelsea centre-back, glanced the ball towards the goal with his head. Unfortunately for the Hammers’ defender, De Gea was on task to save the shot.

The win marks a positive return for us after the draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. Man United played well against the Blues. However, we were unable to finish our chances.

Erik ten Hag’s team has been impressive in recent weeks. Against Tottenham Hotspur prior to the Chelsea game, the Red Devils put in one of their best performances of the season. The Old Trafford side dominated Spurs in every area of the pitch for most of the match.

For De Gea, the 2022/23 campaign has only further cemented his position as the first-choice goalkeeper after last season’s displays. The 31-year-old did have a shaky start under the Dutch manager. However, the shot-stopper seems to have found his feet since the Brentford game.

Man United now sit in fifth place in the PL table, three points behind third-placed Tottenham, with a game in hand over them.
