Lukasz Fabianski lavishes praise on Manchester United superstar David De Gea
According to The Daily Star, West Ham United’s Lukasz Fabianski has hailed Manchester United superstar David De Gea as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
The Spanish veteran took over from Edwin van der Sar and has held onto the number-one jersey for more than a decade now. Despite making a few gaffes here and there, De Gea is among a handful of players still at Old Trafford to have played under Sir Alex Ferguson.
De Gea has made 503 appearances for the Red Devils, keeping 172 clean sheets in the process. He is currently sixth on the list of all-time appearances for the club and the lone goalkeeper in the lone 10. However one might feel about the Spaniard, there is no denying his standing in the club’s heritage.
Fabianski is also an experienced player in the top flight and appears to nurse an admiration for De Gea. Ahead of the West Ham vs Man United clash today, he extolled the Red Devils’ star’s virtues.
“He is pure quality – one of the best in the history of the Premier League, in my eyes. He has shown it many, many times. He had a few difficult spells but, in general, he’s been great. Amazing.”
The Hammers stopper believes De Gea constantly finds himself under scrutiny because of the weight of the jersey he wears. As a Manchester United player, his performances are always under the spotlight.
“For every player at a bigger club, there’s always bigger scrutiny attached.”
While it is good to see compatriots from other clubs lavish praise on our players, it will matter for little unless they can perform on the pitch. De Gea has largely impressed under Erik ten Hag following a shaky start and will be keen to keep his good run going.
The 31-year-old is one of the finest players to don the red jersey in the Premier League era. After all, you don’t make 503 appearances for a club such as Man United if you are not special.

Fabianski’s comments come just days after Spain omitted De Gea from their 55-man preliminary squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup next month. The very fact that five other goalkeepers got the nod over the 31-year-old can be seen as a personal affront.
However, De Gea can prove his detractors wrong by performing week in and week out for Manchester United. The only way he can nurse the pride that has been hit is on the pitch and the Red Devils could massively benefit from it.
