Manchester United told they will regret missing out on Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo
Manchester United have been told they will regret missing out on a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Red Devils had a chance to sign him before his move to the Seagulls.
However, the Old Trafford side opted against a deal to get the Ecuadorian to Manchester from Independiente del Valle. In the recent transfer window, Erik ten Hag’s team revived their interest in the 20-year-old but were told to part ways with £100 million.
Speaking to Give Me Sport (h/t Express), South American football expert Tim Vickery suggested United might be ruing not opting to get Caicedo when they had the chance.
“Man Utd could have had him first and really for a song. They thought the deal was too complex, I think.
“But, for the amount of money, it was worth taking a chance on him and I think they’ve lived to regret that since. That’s the direction that he’s certainly going in because I think any club can do with a midfielder with those all-round characteristics.”
The Ecuadorian has gone on to do well for Brighton since his time in East Sussex. He broke through under former Seagulls head coach Graham Potter in the second half of the previous campaign.
And the youngster has gone from strength to strength since then. The midfielder is now a mainstay in the starting lineup of Brighton, playing in the number six and box-to-box roles.
United fans have experienced first-hand what Caicedo is all about. Last season at Old Trafford in the Premier League, the Seagulls beat us 4-0 and the Ecuadorian got on the scoresheet.
The 20-year-old also started for the East Sussex side as they beat the Red Devils 2-1 in our first league game of the current campaign. United’s duo of Fred and Scott McTominay was exposed against Brighton in the fixture.
In the summer of 2022, the Old Trafford side ended up signing Christina Eriksen and Casemiro. However, both of them are 30 years old.

Caicedo is someone with huge potential. And the youngster’s age makes him a player with longevity. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will pursue the Ecuadorian once again in a few years’ time.
