Napoli chief Cristiano Giuntoli dismisses signing of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo in January

Cristiano Giuntoli, the director of Napoli, has dismissed the idea of the Serie A giants signing Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo in January. He feels the Italian outfit are great as they are.

The Portugal international’s future in Manchester is uncertain. And the club could allow the 37-year-old to leave for free in the winter transfer window if interested parties approach the Red Devils.

It was recently claimed by The Sun that Ronaldo would be an option for Napoli. However, speaking to DAZN (h/t Metro), Giuntoli put to rest any rumours of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner returning to Italy with the Naples-based club.

“Ronaldo in January? We won’t sign any player in January. We don’t need to change anything in this team. We’re doing great and we’re not planning any signing, as of today.”

Napoli are currently on a roll right now. In the current campaign, the Italians are leading the Serie A table at the moment. Luciano Spalletti’s team are unbeaten in the league.

Additionally, in the Champions League, the Naples-based club have won all five of their group-stage games emphatically as of yet. They recently beat Rangers 3-0.

On the other hand, Ronaldo has not had the best of campaigns in Manchester. The Portuguese star has found himself on the peripheries of the team on most occasions.

Erik ten Hag has preferred other options ahead of the 37-year-old in the number nine position. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have started up front when they have been available.

Thus, Ronaldo has become seemingly an afterthought at United. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner stormed down the tunnel before the full-time whistle against Tottenham Hotspur in the league. As a result, he was suspended for the game against Chelsea.

However, Ten Hag has reinstated the forward into the squad for the game against Sheriff Tiraspol. It remains to be seen what role the Portuguese plays against the Moldovan outfit.
