Erik ten Hag wary of managerial change at Sheriff Tiraspol ahead of the visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is wary of the managerial change at Sheriff Tiraspol ahead of their visit to Old Trafford on Thursday (27 October). The Moldovan outfit’s head coach Stjepan Tomas stepped down a few days before the Europa League clash against the Red Devils.
Sheriff, who are the champions in Moldova, appointed the Croatian at their helm in the summer of 2022. However, after their first defeat to Petrocub, which was their first in the league this season, Tomas departed.
Speaking ahead of the fixture against Sheriff to the club’s official website via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag admits that the Croatian leaving the Moldovan outfit’s dugout could change the side’s approach against United. However, the Dutch manager is prepared for any eventuality.
“Maybe. We are aware of it and they can change, they can change from the system and the style.
“But, of course, they will have a new manager who will want to prove himself. He will be really highly motivated, so we have to be prepared for that.”
The Red Devils currently sit second in their group, just behind Real Sociedad, who beat us in the first UEL game of the season. However, since then, the Old Trafford side have been perfect in the group beating Sheriff in Moldova and Omonia Nicosia twice.
Now, we welcome Sheriff to Manchester. In the reverse fixture, United sailed to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Moldovan outfit. The game saw Cristiano Ronaldo open his tally for the campaign with a penalty.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Portugal international features for the Manchester-based club. He recently came back into the squad after being suspended for the Chelsea game for his antics against Tottenham Hotspur.
We have had some mixed performances in the Premier League as of late. The Red Devils put in one of their best performances of the season against Spurs. However, only a stoppage-minute equaliser from Casemiro helped us get a point at Stamford Bridge.

Fans will want the Old Trafford side to get a win over Sheriff and have a chance to top the group in the final match against La Real. Teams in second place in their groups must play extra fixtures to qualify for the next round.
Thus, with an already packed schedule, the team need to secure the three points in the next two fixtures in the UEL.
