Erik ten Hag gives positive injury update on Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of Chelsea game

Manchester United has given a positive injury update on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as the defender is close to being fit. The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines for the last several weeks.

The former Crystal Palace star has played just four minutes of competitive football this season. However, the England U21 international has been missing from the Dutch manager’s squad since the Leicester City game in the Premier League.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News ahead of the Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge, Ten Hag revealed Wan-Bissaka had returned to training. And the gaffer is glad to have the 24-year-old back.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back on the pitch, so that’s good news, because we need everyone.”

The former Palace star has lost his place in the starting lineup under Ten Hag. And the England U21 international has been ousted by Diogo Dalot from the team.

The Portugal international has been the preferred choice for the right-back spot since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And both Ralf Rangnick and the former Ajax head coach have relied heavily on the 23-year-old.

Wan-Bissaka signed for United in the summer of 2019 from the Eagles. And the defender enjoyed regular game time in Manchester under the then Norwegian manager.

On the other hand, Dalot was mostly reduced to a backup role under Ole. However, fans were not convinced with the qualities of either of the right-backs.

But the Portuguese has turned things around in the current campaign. His performances have led to rave reviews from supporters. The full-back has seemingly improved his game all-around. He has looked threatening going forward and has been decent defensively as well.

However, the 23-year-old seems to be the only natural option at right-back currently. Thus, it is evidently essential that Wan-Bissaka gets over his injury setback and is back in contention for Ten Hag soon.
