Erik ten Hag hopes the substitutes “make a difference” for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is hoping the substitutes on the bench are able to make a difference against Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils take on Spurs on 19 October at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Man United are coming off a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United. It was our first stalemate of the 2022/23 campaign. And fans will be hoping the team will be able to bounce back against the North London side.
Speaking to the club’s official website via Manchester Evening News ahead of the fixture, Ten Hag urged the players to take control of the game and give it their all. The Dutch manager also hopes those on the bench will also be able to play a part against Tottenham.
“They’re a really good team and, once again, they’re a really intense team, so we have to match that.
“They are well-organised, so we have to be prepared. They can break very quickly. We have to be aware of that. They can defend really solid and compact, but we have to find the gaps.
“We have to make it our game, so we need the best from everyone: the 11 players on the pitch but also on the bench that can make a difference, finally.”
Man United had been on a good run in the league before the defeat in the derby to Manchester City. Since then, our performances have not been convincing.
In the two fixtures against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League, the Red Devils have had
to suffer. However, the substitutes in both games helped the Old Trafford side secure the three points.Against Everton in the PL, Man United found it hard to create chances. Fortunately, Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo’s strikes were able to get the Red Devils over the line to a narrow 2-1 victory.
Tottenham have been decent this season. The North London side have lost only one game in the current campaign. And they sit third in the league behind City and Arsenal.
Under Antonio Conte, Tottenham have looked good defensively. Spurs have looked to play deep and attack teams on the counter. Harry Kane has also been in fine form for the North London side.
