Dion Dublin believes Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Manchester United until the end of the season
Former Manchester United ace Dion Dublin believes Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the club till the end of the 2022/23 season. The ex-centre-forward does not see the Portuguese leave in the January transfer window.
Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils last year. And the 37-year-old’s first campaign back was decent. The Portuguese ended up as our top goalscorer in all competitions. However, this season, he has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has also not been the first choice under Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese has had to settle for a role on the bench most often during the current campaign. Thus, he is being linked with a move away from United in the winter.
However, speaking exclusively to Express Sport, Dublin is of the opinion that Ronaldo will see out his contract in Manchester, which expires in 2024.
“I can see him staying until the end of the season instead of leaving in January.
“I’m not on the training ground, but from the outside looking in, I would imagine he’ll be at United until the end of this season.”
In the ongoing season, the 37-year-old centre-forward has seemingly struggled to find a place in the new gaffer’s system. Ten Hag has preferred the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the number nine position.
Ronaldo has started just twice for United in the Premier League this season. Overall, the Portuguese has featured 12 times, scoring two goals and providing an assist. However, he did reach a milestone against Everton, scoring his 700th club career goal.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is not in the best of form. He has cut a frustrated figure at times on the pitch. And the 37-year-old has snatched at chances, which is unlike him.
On the other hand, Rashford and Martial have been making a case for themselves whenever they feature. They have been two of our most potent players in front of goal in the current campaign.
