Club News: Chris Sutton gives his prediction for Manchester United versus Newcastle United
Acclaimed pundit Chris Sutton does not see Manchester United beat Newcastle United later today. The former Celtic forward believes both sides will share the points with the score line ending 1-1.
Writing in his latest BBC Sport column (h/t Manchester Evening News), the pundit believes that Newcastle will take the game to their opposition.
“I can’t see Eddie Howe changing his approach, because that’s not his style. That should make things more open, which might help Manchester United. The trouble for them is that everyone scrutinizes their every result so much and it’s always painted as triumph or disaster, with nothing in between. This week, though, it might have to be in between.”
Newcastle have been in good form for the past couple of games. Eddie Howe’s side have scored nine goals in the last two games and currently sit sixth on the table with 14 points, one point and a place behind the Red Devils.
United managed to edge past a stingy Omonia side last time out at home, courtesy of a Scott McTominay winner in the injury time. The 25-year-old midfielder is likely to start against the Magpies with Casemiro in the middle of the park.
Erik ten Hag will know that he has a tricky opponent to face later in the afternoon. A win against them would benefit his side in the long run, as they will then take on Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea for their next two games in the Premier League.
Fans will hope for a similar result to last time Newcastle visited Old Trafford. The Red Devils won 4-1 and will hope to get the three points again today against a very tricky opponent.
