Holland international Frenkie de Jong unhappy at Barcelona with Manchester United still keen on transfer
Manchester United are still keen on bringing Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford, with the Holland international unhappy at Barcelona, according to Sport (h/t Metro).
De Jong is annoyed with his situation with the Catalan giants at the moment. The 25-year-old has not started a lot of games for Xavi Hernandez’s team this season.
The Red Devils have maintained contact with De Jong. United failed to sign the Holland international in the summer of 2022. However, the Old Trafford side are still interested in signing the 25-year-old.
De Jong was also left on the bench for the Blaugrana’s critical tie against Inter Milan. Barcelona took on the Serie A outfit in the Champions League group stage at Camp Nou. The Holland international came on as a substitute in the 64th minute.
However, De Jong was unable to help his side win as Barcelona drew 3-3 with Inter. This leaves the European giants on the brink of UCL exit and a second consecutive season being relegated to the Europa League.
De Jong has featured in 10 games for Barcelona in the 2022/23 campaign, scoring one goal. However, the 25-year-old has just started four times for the Catalan giants.
United went on to sign Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the recent transfer window to bolster the middle of the park. The Red Devils seem to have done well with the Danish and Brazilian stars.
Eriksen has been influential for Erik ten Hag since the start of the season, starting a majority of the games. Casemiro also showed what he brings to the table as he picked up a Man of the Match award for his performance in the 2-1 win over Everton.

However, De Jong is also a quality individual. The 25-year-old is one of the best at keeping hold of possession, which would evidently help in Ten Hag’s system. But it remains to be seen whether United will be able to lure the midfielder in the future.
