Paul Scholes believes Manchester United can finish second ahead of Arsenal

Speaking in an interview with BT Sport as quoted by Metro, former Manchester United midfielder and club legend Paul Scholes believes that his former club have what it takes to finish second in the Premier League behind Manchester City.

Scholes claims that the Red Devils can leapfrog Arsenal in the Premier League race and finish the best of the rest. However, he did go on to claim that Man United have to be more clinical with chances in front of goal.

After a very poor start to the season where the Red Devils lost their first two games in the Premier League, Man United have eventually settled into the season and are now looking the part under Erik ten Hag.

Except for a loss to Manchester City, the Red Devils have been fairly consistent with their results. They even managed to get the better of Liverpool and Arsenal during this period which would have been a huge boost.

Man United finally look to be playing the kind of football that Erik ten Hag wants but there are chinks in the armour that they need to iron out. It is a process though and it will take time. The Red Devils will have to be patient with the Dutch tactician.

Speaking about Man United’s chances, Scholes was rather bullish and believes that this team can do really well.

“I think they’ve got the squad of players that means they could be. It’s still very early days for some of these players, the manager and his staff as well. The longer it goes on, the more confident I’ll be of them getting in the top four. Yeah, I think they can, they’ve got the squad to do that. They need to be more clinical though.”

Erik ten Hag’s side have a clash with Newcastle United this weekend that they will be looking to win and continue their impressive run. However, the Magpies have performed very well this season and it won’t be an easy task.

The more and more the team plays together, the better they will start understanding the tactics that ten Hag wants to implement and we will see this team playing in a more fluid way. It’s exciting to imagine what the former Ajax man can do with this team.

Man United have had a mixed start to life under ten Hag but the important thing is that we can see the team improving. It can only keep getting better than here. It remains to be seen if they can finish second but top four is definitely not out of bounds.
