Newcastle United closely tracking soon-to-be out-of-contract Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is attracting interest from Newcastle United, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News). The Magpies are closely monitoring the England international’s contract situation with the Red Devils.
Shaw’s existing deal with Man United is in its final year. However, the Red Devils do have the option to extend it till 2024. But if the Old Trafford side decide against keeping the 27-year-old, Eddie Howe’s side could swoop in for him in January.
In the last few weeks, Shaw has seen himself be out of the starting lineup. Erik ten Hag has put faith in summer 2022 signing Tyrell Malacia. The 23-year-old arrived from Feyenoord in the recent transfer window.
The England international has not started for Man United since the 4-0 loss to Brentford. With Malacia in the side, the former Southampton star has mostly had to sit on the bench this season.
However, the Holland international was poor for the Red Devils against Manchester City and Omonia Nicosia in the previous two fixtures. Shaw replaced him at half-time in both games.
While Shaw has been struggling for starts at Man United, Gareth Southgate picked him to play 90 minutes against Germany in the recent international break. And the left-back put in a decent showing in the 3-3 draw.
Shaw was signed in the summer of 2014 from the Saints. The 27-year-old has had a topsy-turvy career in a red shirt. Injuries have hampered his time in Manchester.
Man United fans were left frustrated with Shaw’s performances last season. The England international’s defending left a lot to be desired.

However, there is no denying that the 27-year-old is a decent player. Shaw was a key member of the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 team that reached the final. But it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils decided to keep hold of the left-back.
