Report: Manchester United and Tottenham want Illan Meslier
According to TeamTalk, Premier League duo Manchester United and Tottenham are interested in signing talented young French shot-stopper Illan Meslier from Leeds United next summer.
Meslier is one of the most talented players that Leeds have in their ranks. The French starlet has been the White’s first choice goalie for quite some time now ever since he took over from Kiko Casilla and he has put in impressive displays.
It is normal to see 22-year-old shot-stoppers emerging as first-choice goalies for their clubs so soon. Meslier, like Gianluigi Donnaruma, is an exception and both of them broke into the first team very young in their careers.
Meslier joined Leeds from FC Lorient in 2020. The 22-year-old is also a part of the France U-21 set-up and has a chance of being the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris in the national team, despite the presence of Mike Maignan.
It looks like the left-footed goalkeeper might be given a chance to replace Lloris even at club level with Tottenham said to be interested in Leeds’ prized asset. However, Manchester United could throw the spanner in the works.
The Red Devils are eyeing the Frenchman to be the long-term replacement for Spanish veteran David de Gea. There have been question marks over the former Atletico Madrid man’s suitability to Ten Hag’s system and he could be moved on.
Meslier in that regard would be tailor-made for the Dutchman’s system. Excellent with the ball at his feet and proactive around the box, the 22-year-old is exactly what you would expect from a modern goalkeeper.
Despite losing two of their best players in Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha to Manchester City and Barcelona respectively, Leeds have started the season really well and will want to continue doing so under Jesse March.

If Illan Meslier can continue to prove his worth this season as well, his stocks will only keep rising and he could be the next big money move out of Elland Road, come next summer.
