Manchester United retain interest in RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United are still interested in bringing Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko to the club next summer, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News). The Red Devils considered making a move for the 19-year-old in the recent transfer window.
However, Sesko ended up signing a pre-contract agreement with the Austrian outfit’s sister club RB Leipzig for a move in the summer of 2023. He is set to cost the Germans around £21.6 million.
However, the Bundesliga outfit will have to brace themselves for offers for the Slovenia international. Even though Sesko has not yet kicked a ball for Leipzig, United, along with Chelsea and Bayern Munich, are eyeing a move.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s United future during the recent transfer window was uncertain. However, Portugal international has stayed put in Manchester for now.
However, a number nine is still seemingly an essential position for United. Marcus Rashford has been preferred by Erik ten Hag in the number nine role. This has left the five-time Ballon d’Or winner mostly warming the bench.
The England international has been decent for the Red Devils up front. United have found success playing counter-attacking football. And the 24-year-old’s pace and agility have helped.
Rashford has found the net against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. However, the Old Trafford side evidently need more quality in the attack. Anthony Martial has also not played much this season.
Sesko has started the 2022/23 campaign on fire. In 14 appearances for Salzburg in all competitions, the 19-year-old has five goals and two assists. The striker also scored a wonder goal for Slovenia against Sweden in the recent international break.
