Erik ten Hag left frustrated as Antony failed in tracking back for Manchester United vs Man City
Manchester United forward Antony left a lot to be desired when tracking back against Man City, as ordered by Erik ten Hag, according to The Sun.
The Dutch manager was left frustrated as Pep Guardiola’s team trounced the Red Devils 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium. And the new attacking singing from Ajax seemingly ignored the gaffer’s instructions to provide defensive support.
Diogo Dalot was also seen demonstrating with Antony on the pitch. The Brazilian winger was nowhere to be found when the Sky Blues mounted their attacks.
The Portuguese right-back was left to fend for himself as Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva kept piling on the pressure on the wings. Dalot got a yellow for his troubles early on in the second minute of the game for a foul on the former Aston Villa star.
On the other wing, Tyrell Malacia also had a tough time of things. Jadon Sancho looked lethargic in falling back and supporting the left-back, who went in the book as well in the 23rd minute.
Phil Foden opened the scoring for City in the eighth minute. Erling Haaland doubled the lead for the Sky Blues. The Norwegian and English attackers completed their brace before the end of the first half.
United went into the break four goals down. The Red Devils were shocking all over the pitch. The defence looked unprepared. And the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez was exposed by Guardiola.

While we did get a few goals in the second half, City had evidently taken their foot off the gas. Antony managed to score a wonder goal from almost 25 yards out. Anthony Martial got two late goals, but not before Halland and Foden completed their hat-tricks.
United did not defend well. However, against teams like City, it is important to stay solid as a unit. And that is something the Red Devils seemingly lacked in the Manchester derby.
