Christen Eriksen feels the team is to blame as Manchester United lose 6-3 in Manchester derby
Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen feels the team are to blame for the 6-3 loss to Manchester City in the derby. The Red Devils did not seem up for it from the get-go against the Sky Blues.
City came out the gates in a dominant fashion and put four past United in the first half. The Red Devils reacted a bit in the second half. However, Pep Guardiola’s team got the better of us with a comfortable victory.
Speaking after the Manchester derby (h/t The Sun), Eriksen admits it was a “bad day at the office” for United. The Danish midfielder was disappointed with City being afforded chances from the start of the game.
“It came very heavy.
“Everyone feels it was a very bad day at the office. We started on the wrong foot.
“They had chances straight from kick-off. We can only blame ourselves.”
City dominated United
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the eighth minute. The Sky Blues had created several chances before that right from kick-off. And they went on to dominate the proceedings, with the 22-year-old being pivotal.
The Red Devils sat back and tried to play on the counter. However, we were unable to get a hold of the ball. The middle of the park was taken over by Guardiola’s team. And Eriksen and Scott McTominay struggled.
And it was not long before Erling Haaland found the back of the net in quick succession. The Norwegian scored in the 34th and 37th minutes, as Erik ten Hag had no answer for the team in blue.
Foden got another goal just before half-time to make it 4-0, flashbacks of the Brentford game. United’s defence was under constant pressure as the Cityzens bombarded the Red Devils.
No City player had scored a hat-trick against United in the Premier League prior to this game. We saw both Haaland and Foden take the match ball home.

While we did show some fight and desire in the second half, it was too little too late. Maybe fans can take some comfort in the team getting three goals back. However, some big changes are needed if we want to compete against the best.
