Dolores Aveiro, the mother of Cristiano Ronaldo, reveals desire to see Manchester United superstar back at Sporting CP

The mother of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Dolores Aveiro, has revealed her desire to see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner back at Sporting CP.

Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils after leaving the Manchester-based club in 2009. And after successful stints with Real Madrid and Juventus, the 37-year-old came back to his old stomping ground in the summer of 2021.

However, things seem to have quickly turned sour as Ronaldo expressed his wish to leave United in the recent transfer window. But the Portugal international has ended up staying in Manchester for now.

Ronaldo was not happy seeing the club disappoint at the end of last season. The Portuguese had an impressive campaign, ending the 2021/22 campaign as our top goalscorer. But United as a whole were underwhelming.

Most of our players were unable to make an impact last season. And the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League. The Old Trafford side missed out on Champions League football.

Even though Ronaldo wanted to leave, the 37-year-old’s wage demands put off potential suitors. However, Dolores, speaking to Nova Genta (h/t Mirror), believes the Portugal international’s move back to Sporting CP could happen.

“It (a return to Sporting) can happen, but not right now. This was not the year for it, but next year it might be.”

Under Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo has not had the best of times up until now. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been on the bench most often this season.

The Portuguese has started just one game for the Red Devils in the Premier League. Marcus Rashford has been ahead of the 37-year-old in the pecking order in this campaign.

Ronaldo has started for United in the last couple of games. However, they have been in the Europa League. So it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese starts against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in our next fixture.
