SL Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos ‘a player of interest’ for Manchester United
According to journalist Dean Jones, SL Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos is “definitely interesting” to Manchester United. The Red Devils are searching for someone who will not be a “huge gamble”.
The Portuguese centre-forward played second fiddle to Liverpool star Darwin Nunez last season. However, at the start of the 2022/23 campaign, the 21-year-old has been thriving for the Eagles.
Speaking to GiveMeSport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Jones stated that Ramos is a player that is being considered by United. He feels the Red Devils will want someone still developing and with a reasonable price tag.

“He is a player of interest, and we know that Liga Nos is proving itself as a great breeding ground for new Premier League talent.
“United will want someone who is hungry to make a name for themselves but who also is not a huge gamble or a huge price-tag. Ramos is definitely interesting.”
Ramos has come up through the youth ranks at Benfica. The 21-year-old made his debut for the Lisbon-based club in a 4-0 victory against Desportivo Alves in the Primeira Liga in July 2020.
However, Ramos did not start to get regular minutes until last season. In the 2021/22 campaign, the Portuguese national featured 46 times for the Eagles, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.
This season, Ramos has taken his game to the next level. The 21-year-old has played in 12 matches, scoring eight goals and giving six assists.
Ramos is yet to receive an international cap for Portugal. However, the centre-forward was on the bench as A Selecao beat the Czech Republic 4-0. Fernando Santos’ men are set to face Spain next in the UEFA Nations League.
United have one of the best Portuguese players of all time currently in the squad. Cristiano Ronaldo is an icon at the Manchester-based club. Alongside the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, the other Portuguese contingent in the side includes Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes. Both of them have been pivotal under Erik ten Hag.

Ramos is still an impressionable youngster. The 21-year-old has the potential to develop into a quality striker. It remains to be seen whether United are able to entice the forward to Manchester in the future.
