Manchester United will soon trigger the one-year extension option in the contract of right-back Diogo Dalot
Diogo Dalot will soon have his Manchester United contract extended by a further year as the club look set to trigger the option in the right-back’s deal, according to Record (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are expected to prolong Dalot’s deal by an additional year. And it could happen soon. The Old Trafford side could go ahead with it before the Qatar World Cup.
Erik ten Hag seems to have taken a liking to the Portugal international. The 23-year-old has started every game this season under the Dutch manager and is a versatile customer who can play as a left-back if needed.
This has left Aaron Wan-Bissaka with minimal game time. The former Crystal Palace star has played just four minutes of competitive football in the 2022/23 campaign under the Dutch manager.
Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Wan-Bissaka was the first choice. The 24-year-old was a regular fixture in the starting XI. However, the Norwegian’s departure changed things.
With Ralf Rangnick appointed as interim boss, Dalot saw more minutes on the pitch. The Portuguese signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2018. But it was the arrival of the Austrian head coach that led to the 23-year-old cementing his place in the side.
Now, Dalot is performing at a high level. The former FC Porto star had a shaky start to the new season. However, since the losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the Portuguese has been sensational in fans’ eyes.
Dalot is currently with the Portugal national team. The 23-year-old scored a brace against the Czech Republic in a 4-0 victory in the UEFA Nations League.
