Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay starred for Scotland in their 3-0 win over Ukraine in the Nations League
Scott McTominay starred for Scotland in their win over Ukraine in Group B1 of the UEFA Nations League. The Manchester United midfielder played the full 90 minutes for his national side, via Manchester Evening News.
Aston Villa captain John McGinn opened the scoring for the Tartan Terriers in the 70th minute. Queens Park Rangers centre-forward Lyndon Dykes followed up with goals in the 80th and 87th minutes. The game ended 3-0 in Scotland’s favour at Hampden Park.
McTominay played alongside Celtic’s Callum McGregor in the double pivot. The Tartan Terriers went ahead of Oleksandr Petrakov’s team to top the group. Scotland will face the Republic of Ireland next.
The United midfielder made his debut for his national side in March 2018 in an international friendly against Costa Rica. The game ended in a 1-0 loss for the Manchester-based club’s star.
Since then, McTominay has become a regular member of the Scotland national team. The 25-year-old has played multiple positions for the Tartan Terriers, including being deployed at centre-back.
McTominay played every minute of Scotland’s Euro 2020 run. Unfortunately, they were unable to get past the group stages. The 25-year-old will not be going to Qatar as Steve Clarke’s side failed to qualify for the World Cup.
At United, McTominay has become a key member of Erik ten Hag’s team in recent weeks. The Scotland international has kept out Casemiro from the starting lineup.
The 25-year-old came up through the youth ranks and has established himself in the United squad. However, fans have not been convinced of the midfielder’s ability to be a regular starter for the Red Devils.
