PSV director of football reveals lack of offers for Manchester United target Cody Gakpo
Speaking to Voetbal International as quoted by Manchester Evening News, PSV’s director of football has revealed that there were a lack of offers for Manchester United target Cody Gakpo and that the Dutch giants would have had to sell him if there was one.
Gakpo was heavily linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs this summer, the most famous of which was the Red Devils. However, Man United went on to sign Antony from Ajax and could not complete a move for Gakpo.
It has now emerged that the Red Devils never actually made a formal approach for the talented Dutch starlet with the director of the Dutch club revealing that if an offer was made, then the club would have had to sell him.
“I can say with my hand on my heart that there has been no offer for Cody. We did state that if there were certain offers, we would have to sell. Not only from a financial point of view, but also because agreements were made with the Gakpo camp before my time.”
Manchester United want to bring in a new forward throughout the summer. They were linked with a number of names in those two months and two of the most heavily linked ones were that of Antony and Cody Gakpo.
Ultimately, the Red Devils settled for the Brazilian winger. Antony has already made his debut for Erik ten Hag’s team and even managed to score on his debut against Arsenal in Man United’s impressive 3-1 win against Arsenal.
Cody Gakpo is one of the most talented prospects coming out of the Eredivisie in recent years. His performances for the club have been truly special and the numbers that he produces on a consistent basis are eyecatching.
In 13 matches for PSV across all competitions this season, the 23-year-old winger has managed to score 10 goals and provide nine assists. These numbers show just how good Gakpo has been and the consistency he has achieved at the top level.
The talented Dutchman is not expected to stay in the Dutch league for too long. The elite clubs around Europe will want to sign Gakpo come the next transfer window and it remains to be seen if Manchester United are still interested.
