Youri Tielemans opens up on not leaving Leicester City in the recent transfer window amidst links to Manchester United
Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans was linked with several clubs, including Manchester United in the summer. The Belgian ended up staying at the King Power Stadium. However, the 25-year-old does not regret his decision.
Leicester are having a hard time in the 2022/23 campaign. The Foxes have not won a single game in the Premier League and sit bottom of the table with only one point on the board.
Speaking about not leaving Leicester this summer via Manchester Evening News, Tielemans stated he did not want to move on a whim. And the 25-year-old has no qualms about it.
“I’m not going to speak too much about my contract situation at the moment. I didn’t leave Leicester in the summer as I always said the project had to be the right one.
“Just because things are getting worse now at Leicester doesn’t mean I should regret [staying].”
Arsenal were also interested in Tielemans this summer alongside United. However, a big-money move for the Belgium international did not come about.
United’s midfield additions
Old Trafford saw many departures in the middle of the park in the recent transfer window. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard are just some of the few names who left for free.
The Red Devils replenished the squad by adding two midfielders. Christian Eriksen was one of the first players to make their way to the Manchester-based club in the summer. The Denmark international has evidently seamlessly fit into Erik ten Hag’s plans.
Casemiro was the other player United bought from Real Madrid. The Brazilian has seemingly taken time to settle into the team. Scott McTominay has performed well for the gaffer in the number six position.
Other options at Ten Hag’s disposal are Fred and Donny van de Beek. However, fans feel the team could do with more quality in the engine room.
