Tyrell Malacia reveals Manchester United went back to basics after defeat against Brentford in the Premier League
Manchester United star Tyrell Malacia reveals the team went back to the basics and worked hard after the 4-0 loss to Bretford in the Premier League. And that has been the catalyst for the Red Devils’ winning run.
United visited the Gtech Community Stadium on matchday two of the league. The team were coming off a loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in the opening game of the season. Fans were expecting a reaction from the team. However, that was not to be.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Malacia states the group realised they needed to put in the effort. The team let go of a few ideas and stuck to putting in a shift to get over the line in matches.
“Every game is difficult, every week is difficult – there are no easy games.
“[After the Brentford match] We spoke with each other a lot, as a team, we trained and the first thing we had to do was the basics – work hard. That’s where it all started, you’ve seen it in the games.
“It wasn’t always good football but we worked hard and that’s why we kept winning games. Now we have to have that as a standard and now we have to develop our possession game.”
The Bees scored four past us in the opening 35 minutes of the game. Erik ten Hag reacted and made a few changes at half-time. However, it was too little too late. We sat at the bottom of the table after two fixtures.
Liverpool were set to visit Old Trafford after the Bretford fixture. Most people had written off the Red Devils against Jurgen Klopp’s side. But that is when the gaffer made some big decisions.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were some of the big names that were dropped to the bench for the North West derby. And the Red Devils came out with a 2-1 victory.
Ten Hag has kept the same starting XI for almost every game in the PL since then. And United have seen off the likes of Southampton and Leicester. We made it four victories in a row after beating Arsenal. The Gunners had a perfect record this season before visiting Old Trafford.
