Bruno Fernandes feels Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has brought discipline back to the team
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes feels Erik ten Hag has brought discipline to the team. However, the Portugal international believes the aspect had been missing in the past.
The Dutch manager took charge at the end of last season. Ten Hag came from Ajax with a reputation for playing and operating a certain way. And that has been evident in the opening weeks of the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Daily Mail], Fernandes reveals the Dutch manager is uncompromising in his ideas. The 28-year-old is of the opinion that the Red Devils lacked order before Ten Hag’s arrival.
“First of all, he has an idea. He has a style. You have to follow his rules. He is strict on that and I like that.
“He has brought discipline, which is something I think we missed in the past. Everyone must be on the same page.”
During pre-season, the changes the former Ajax head coach wanted to implement were apparent. Ten Hag seemingly wants to keep hold of the ball and play with high intensity.
However, the start of the season under the new gaffer did not go as planned. United lost the first two competitive games of the campaign. The Red Devils looked uncomfortable in the losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.
But since then, United have turned things around. Ten Hag has not been afraid to make some bold decisions. He has dropped the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire to the bench.
And the Red Devils have been solid at the back and creative up front. Every player is evidently putting in a shift to help the side. Fans notice that we are now working as a unit instead of relying on individuals.
United have borne the fruit of their efforts in recent weeks. We have gone on a four-game win streak in the Premier League, beating the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
